“This latest update underscores Evolv’s dedication to advancing technology as well as our commitment to improving support for the people and processes involved in a security plan based on valuable customer feedback. Customers can easily train new Express operators and more quickly address alerts as people move through the system,” said Evolv co-founder Anil Chitkara. “The new tablet user interface has been redesigned to prioritize the needs of operators.”

Key enhancements in the Express 7.0 include:

  • Improved Operations: The new tablet interface boasts more efficient identification of alerting individuals and improved alert resolution workflow and threat categorization.
  • Simplified Home Screen: The home screen now includes the essential information required for operators to perform their tasks.
  • Enhanced Flow Control Alert Screen: The introduction of a new flow control alert screen can streamline the management of visitors requiring secondary screening.
  • Modern Look and Feel: The new interface delivers a more visually appealing and intuitive user experience.
  • Updated Detection Algorithm: Evolv is committed to regularly enhancing our AI-based algorithm’s ability to detect potential threats, while simultaneously reducing the frequency of nuisance alarms. Express 7.0 reduces nuisance alarms, which meaningfully enhances the visitor experience.

“Ongoing detection upgrades available through our SaaS model set Evolv apart. Additionally, the guard and visitor experience is enhanced by quickly pinpointing the threat location on an individual,” said Mike Ellenbogen, co-founder, and chief innovation officer at Evolv Technology. “By providing clear visual evidence for noninvasive secondary screening, it can drive operational efficiency.”

“We know the Evolv team is always working to improve and update their security software.  The enhancements to the detection algorithm benefit our overall security program and the entry process for our fans,” said Pete Nesbit, SVP, Ballpark Operations, Boston Red Sox.

Wyoming Valley West School District Ensures Students Aren’t Late to Class with the Help of Evolv

For a number of years, Wyoming Valley West used walkthrough metal detectors sporadically at the entrances to all of its schools—four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. About midway through 2022, a large grant from the Pennsylvania Crime Commission became available to every school district in the state. “The grant had a series of checkboxes for tiers one through three
that reflected the maturity of security deployments at the district,” Anthony Dicton, Safety and Security Coordinator at Wyoming
Valley School District recalls. “I was able to persuade the grant writers that we had completed tier one and most of tier two, and thus we qualified to purchase security screening systems. I was familiar with the Evolv Express technology and knew what we wanted.”

He later continues, “When we evaluated different options, we kept coming back to the fact that Evolv is used at some of the largest sports stadiums and most prestigious performing arts centers in the country. If it keeps their environments safe and scales to handle the volumes of guests they experience, then it is good enough for us.” By enabling the Evolv Express®, Wyoming Valley School District was able to achieve the following and more:

  • Screened over 1,000 people in approximately 30 minutes for graduation ceremony
  • Reduced nearly 50% nuisance alarm rate connected to metal detectors
  • Reclaimed entrance footprint taken up by security systems by going from 6 metal detectors to 4 Express systems

New CITYPARK Stadium Adds Evolv to Its Cutting Edge Technology Portfolio to Help Keep Fans Safer

Joe Abernathy, VP of Operations, CITYPARK, has 25 years of experience in stadium operations. “Being involved with MLS’ newest expansion team, St. Louis CITY SC, was really exciting, especially since I grew up playing soccer in St. Louis.” As part of this process, safety was a critical underpinning for the design and launch of CITYPARK. “Providing a safe, clean and friendly environment for our guests is our first priority,” Abernathy explains.“ When it came time to evaluating the screening technology for CITYPARK, we were excited because options beyond legacy metal detectors were becoming available.”

“We were speaking with members of industry groups, and Evolv was a name that kept coming up,” he remembers. “We looked
at multiple solutions and Evolv met the vetting requirements better than every other vendor. Speed, ease of use, and AI kept coming up in those conversations. “We wanted to make the ingress experience seamless, touchless, and paperless. We wanted the guests to have time to take in the entire building and the different things it offers,” Abernathy said. By enabling the Evolv Express®, St. Louis CITY SC was able to achieve the following:

  • Screened up to 500 fans per minute at four stadium entrance
  • Reduced proposed security lane footprint by 63%—from what would have been around 50 metal detectors to 19 Express lanes (or 11 systems
  • Got fans into the stadium quickly so they can enjoy concessions and stadium amenities before the start of events

Florence 1 Schools Puts the Focus Back on Student Learning with Evolv Express Security Screening

The safety of students, faculty, and staff is a key consideration for Florence 1. “Safety is our number one priority from the start each day until we get our students home safely at night,” says Kyle Jones, Deputy Superintendent at Florence 1 Schools. “We want our faculty and students to focus on quality teaching and learning.”

But with the metal detectors came many encumbrances. Long lines formed outside of school entrances. “We were screening students one by one, which created congestion, especially in our car and bus line area,” recalls Jones. “With the metal detectors, students lined up as if they were preparing for assembly,” adds Thomas Burton, Campus Monitor and Security at Wilson High School. “We could only screen one student at a time.” Then Evolv was brought in. Through the implementation of the Express, Florence 1 Schools were able to achieve the following:

  • Removed over 100 walkthrough metal detectors and replaced them with 23 Evolv Express system
  • Cut the number of teachers and staff needed to manage security screening by over 85%
  • Streamlined secondary security checks with contextual threat detections

Florence 1 Schools Expands Partnership With Evolv Technology, Doubles Down OnCommitment to School Safety

The School District Was the Second Academic Institution in the U.S. to Adopt the AI-Powered Weapons Detection

WALTHAM, Mass. – (August 16, 2023) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), the leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, has expanded its partnership with South Carolina’s Florence 1 Schools. In 2019, the largest school district in Florence County, Florence 1, became the second school district in the country to implement Evolv’s technology. It has since expanded its use to 23 Evolv Express® systems across eight schools.

Evolv Express® uses powerful sensor technology with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide safer, more accurate threat detection at superior volume and speed. Florence 1 Schools screen thousands of students, staff, and visitors Monday through Friday across its high school and middle schools.

“Florence 1 Schools is dedicated to the safety of our students and staff,” said Kyle Jones, deputy superintendent of Florence 1 Schools. “We have Evolv at our entry points, helping to detect items that might cause harm before they enter the building. That extra layer of security provides a sense of comfort to our parents, faculty, and the greater community, and demonstrates our recognition that violence in schools is increasing and we’ve taken a concrete step to address it.”

Students, staff, and visitors can walk right through the Evolv Express units every morning without always having to be individually screened. The system can differentiate between threats and everyday metal items carried in pockets and personal bags, such as keys and phones.

In addition to enhancing school safety, Evolv Express takes up significantly less space than the metal detectors Florence 1 previously used. The single dual-lane Evolv system in place at each entry point replaces four metal detectors. Systems are set up at the main entrances, bus and gym entries to the high school and middle schools. The old metal detectors required individuals to pass through slowly and in single file, causing long lines and delayed entry that cut into time in the classroom. Evolv Express helps keep schools safer while helping with expedited entry and added learning time.

“As an early adopter, Florence 1’s belief in Evolv as an effective measure to improve school safety helped us forge partnerships with hundreds of school districts and counting all over the country,” said Neil Sandhoff, Evolv’s vice president of education. “We are immensely proud of our continued work with Florence 1, which helped pave the way for like-minded communities working to create safer environments for children and teachers so that they can all focus on learning.”

More than 600 U.S. schools have partnered with Evolv. Atlanta Public Schools, Nebraska’s Winnebago Public Schools, and New Mexico’s Clovis Municipal Schools, among others, have all put in place Evolv systems to create a more efficient and effective screening process as part of a layered approach to school safety. Evolv solutions are used to screen about 250,000 students every day across the U.S.

The Minnesota Twins Hits a Home Run in Security Experience as Target Field Implements Evolv

Dave Horsman, VP of Ballpark Operations at Target Field, recalls the first full deployment of Evolv weapons detection screening on
Opening Day. “We were in the security ingress area when the National Anthem played,” he remembers. “Normally with the metal detectors, we
would still have lines of fans trying to get into the park. But when I looked up after the National Anthem was finished, there were no
lines. I knew then that we had made the right decision.” By enabling the Evolv Express®, the Minnesota Twins were able to achieve the following:

  • Reduced security screening footprint by 77%—replaced 64 walkthrough metal detectors with 15 Outdoor Evolv Express systems
  • Minimized security guard fatigue resulting from a tedious and intrusive screening process
  • Shrank average time required for secondary security screening over two-thirds—from around two minutes to 30-40 seconds

Albuquerque, New Mexico-Area Rio Rancho Public Schools Demonstrates Commitment to Safety With Evolv Technology Implementation

Confident In an Efficient Initial Rollout, RRPS has already invested in more than 20 units to be Dispersed Across the District

WALTHAM, Mass. – (August 9, 2023) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV) has partnered with Rio Rancho Public Schools (RRPS) in New Mexico to bring an added layer of security to the district beginning this school year. Students, faculty and visitors at V. Sue Cleveland High School started experiencing Evolv Express®, an AI-based weapons detection security screening system, when the academic year commenced on August 3. The district plans to add 20-plus Express systems to its schools over the next few years.

According to school officials, safety is RRPS’ top priority, but the district understands that it can’t come at the sake of efficiency. Evolv Express® system’s ability to differentiate commonly carried metal items like cell phones and keys from potential weapons while helping people to pass through at their normal pace was appealing, as was the positive response from other schools’ using Express.

“We thoroughly vetted this technology, going as far as traveling to schools that are comparable in size and design that already have Express in place so we could see the system in use,” said Sal Maniaci, Rio Rancho Public School’s executive director of safety and security. “We’re impressed with the tech’s capabilities and are pleased that it will be an important – yet non-intrusive – part of the safety measures we have in place.”

Evolv is in more than 465 school buildings across 34 states, including 11 of the country’s largest school districts. Express screens hundreds of thousands of students daily.

“We’ve continued to see interest from schools in recent months,” said Neil Sandhoff, Evolv’s vice president of education. “As gun violence – and fear surrounding it – remains a concern for our nation, many educators across the country have found Evolv’s partnership to be a trusted tool that doesn’t distract from learning.”

Evolv-commissioned Gun Violence in America: A Survey on Americans’ Anxiety revealed that three out of four parents have a child(ren) that have anxiety about school shootings, and 54 percent report that their child(ren)’s anxiety has increased in the past three years. The survey also found that three out of four Americans feel safer at places that screen for and do not allow weapons inside.

Citizens Bank Park Teams up with Evolv to Improve Experience for Phillies Fans and Security Staff

Salvatore DeAngelis has seen a lot over the past two-and-a-half decades working for the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2004, when the Phillies moved into Citizens Bank Park, DeAngelis was there to witness the opening. “Security in the form of metal detectors wasn’t in discussion at the time,” he recalls. “But as things changed throughout the country and the world, safety has been elevated as a top priority. With that in mind, we implemented walkthrough metal detectors at our stadium entrances about 10 years ago. We take safety very seriously at the park and have implemented various security layers, including periodic K-9 sweeps of the park.” While the metal detectors performed their function, they had a negative impact on the fan experience. DeAngelis indicates that fans would complain— everything from the time they had to spend waiting in line, to missing first pitches, to the inability to get concessions before the start of a game. That’s when Evolv came in.

DeAngelis described the first instance they used the Evolv Express at a game. “When the first pitch occurred this year, I was watching our entrances and they weren’t flooded with fans like in the past. I could see the ground and all my fears were washed away. I knew we had made the right decision and Evolv was a positive step for our security posture.” Through the implementation of the Express, the Philadelphia Phillies were able to achieve the following:

  • Shrink the security screening footprint by nearly 75% — going from about 50 walkthrough metal detectors to 9 Evolv Express systems
  • Reallocate almost 75% of ingress security staff to other areas of the park for improved security
  • Create a seamless, unintrusive security screening experience for fans—reducing time to complete a secondary check from minutes to less than 40 seconds

Hemet Unified School District Becomes a Trailblazer for School Security in California with Evolv

When Dr. Christi Barrett was selected as Superintendent of HUSD in 2016, one of the first things she did was to form an official Security Department. “This was just one of a number of security initiatives we have launched,” she explains. “The culture at Hemet is one where students are always at the center,” Barrett says.“We wanted to be proactive in how we screen anyone entering our schools,” she conveys. “But we had a lot of challenges with the metal detectors. The rate and pace at which students could come into the building weren’t manageable due to the volume and compressed timeline of students, staff, and visitors entering our schools each morning.” That’s where Evolv came in. Through the implementation of the Express®, Hemet Unified School District was able to achieve the following:

  • Helped create a safer environment for students, teachers, administrators, and staff
  • Reduced lengthy security lines due to inefficiencies of walkthrough metal detectors
  • Avoided security screening delays that resulted in students being tardy for first-period classes

Delaware’s Appoquinimink Schools To Begin New Academic Year With Evolv Technology At High School Stadiums

State’s Fastest Growing District Will Use the Security Screening at Athletic Events

WALTHAM, Mass. – (August 2, 2023) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV) has partnered with Appoquinimink School District in southern New Castle County, Delaware, to bring its AI-based weapons detection security screening to the district’s three high schools. Evolv Express® will be deployed beginning in August at each high school’s stadium and will be used to screen fans attending football games.

Appoquinimink shared that it was their commitment to safety and security that led to its decision to work with Evolv, which has partnered with more than 400 schools across the U.S.to add a new layer of safety. The system was particularly appealing to Appoquinimink because unlike traditional metal detectors, which have the potential to alarm frequently and feel intrusive, Express helps individuals to pass through at the pace of life and only alerts on potentially threatening items. Also attractive was the system’s ease of operation and longevity.

“We’re impressed with how easy the system is to set up and take down, that it’s mobile, and that our team members will be able to operate the equipment with ongoing support from the Evolv team,” said Tom Poehlmann, Appoquinimink’s director of safety, security, and operations. “The fact that this technology is software-based and will continue to get better and stay up-to-date is also major win for us.”

Appoquinimink joins a growing list of school districts nationwide to adopt Evolv’s tech at a time when anxiety around gun violence is high. A study on the topic commissioned by Evolv and released earlier this year found that of those surveyed, half of the households with children have considered homeschooling their kids out of fear of gun violence. Seventy-five percent of parent respondents indicated that their child(ren) has anxiety about school shootings.

“We understand that creating a safer environment can’t come at the sacrifice of a warm and welcoming atmosphere, particularly in schools,” said Neil Sandhoff, Evolv’s vice president of education. “That is equally true for the classroom as it is for athletics, and we’re eager to see the community’s response to the new screening method following its roll out next month.”
