Citizens Bank Park Teams up with Evolv to Improve Experience for Phillies Fans and Security Staff

Salvatore DeAngelis has seen a lot over the past two-and-a-half decades working for the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2004, when the Phillies moved into Citizens Bank Park, DeAngelis was there to witness the opening. “Security in the form of metal detectors wasn’t in discussion at the time,” he recalls. “But as things changed throughout the country and the world, safety has been elevated as a top priority. With that in mind, we implemented walkthrough metal detectors at our stadium entrances about 10 years ago. We take safety very seriously at the park and have implemented various security layers, including periodic K-9 sweeps of the park.” While the metal detectors performed their function, they had a negative impact on the fan experience. DeAngelis indicates that fans would complain— everything from the time they had to spend waiting in line, to missing first pitches, to the inability to get concessions before the start of a game. That’s when Evolv came in. 

DeAngelis described the first instance they used the Evolv Express at a game. “When the first pitch occurred this year, I was watching our entrances and they weren’t flooded with fans like in the past. I could see the ground and all my fears were washed away. I knew we had made the right decision and Evolv was a positive step for our security posture.” Through the implementation of the Express, the Philadelphia Phillies were able to achieve the following: 

  • Shrink the security screening footprint by nearly 75% — going from about 50 walkthrough metal detectors to 9 Evolv Express systems
  • Reallocate almost 75% of ingress security staff to other areas of the park for improved security
  • Create a seamless, unintrusive security screening experience for fans—reducing time to complete a secondary check from minutes to less than 40 seconds

Delaware’s Appoquinimink Schools To Begin New Academic Year With Evolv Technology At High School Stadiums

State’s Fastest Growing District Will Use the Security Screening at Athletic Events 

 

WALTHAM, Mass. – (August 2, 2023) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV) has partnered with Appoquinimink School District in southern New Castle County, Delaware, to bring its AI-based weapons detection security screening to the district’s three high schools. Evolv Express® will be deployed beginning in August at each high school’s stadium and will be used to screen fans attending football games. 

Appoquinimink shared that it was their commitment to safety and security that led to its decision to work with Evolv, which has partnered with more than 400 schools across the U.S.to add a new layer of safety. The system was particularly appealing to Appoquinimink because unlike traditional metal detectors, which have the potential to alarm frequently and feel intrusive, Express helps individuals to pass through at the pace of life and only alerts on potentially threatening items. Also attractive was the system’s ease of operation and longevity. 

“We’re impressed with how easy the system is to set up and take down, that it’s mobile, and that our team members will be able to operate the equipment with ongoing support from the Evolv team,” said Tom Poehlmann, Appoquinimink’s director of safety, security, and operations. “The fact that this technology is software-based and will continue to get better and stay up-to-date is also major win for us.” 

Appoquinimink joins a growing list of school districts nationwide to adopt Evolv’s tech at a time when anxiety around gun violence is high. A study on the topic commissioned by Evolv and released earlier this year found that of those surveyed, half of the households with children have considered homeschooling their kids out of fear of gun violence. Seventy-five percent of parent respondents indicated that their child(ren) has anxiety about school shootings.

Eight School Districts In North Carolina Now Partnering with Evolv for AI Weapons Detection 

WALTHAM, Mass. – (August 1, 2023) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), the leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, today announced its partnership with North Carolina’s Nash County Public Schools (NCPS). Starting today, NCPS is installing Evolv’s state-of-the-art Express® weapons detection systems at all high and middle schools to strengthen its security measures as students head back to class. 

Amidst increasing concerns over school safety and recent incidents of violence disrupting classrooms across the country, the school district aims to ease the minds of teachers, students, and parents through this new technology which helps for weapons screening without always making people stop to be wanded, searched, or empty their pockets and bags.  

Unlike traditional metal detectors, Evolv Express uses powerful sensor technology with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide safer, more accurate threat detection at unprecedented volume and speed. NCPS joins over 450 schools around the country using Express to add a layer of safety for students, teachers, and visitors so the focus can remain on learning.

NCPS trained staff members can then conduct a targeted search based on the alert.

Aultman Hospital Adds Layer of Safety with Evolv Technology

AI-Powered Weapons Detection Integrates With Hospital’s Genetec Technology

WALTHAM, Mass. – (July 19, 2023) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), the leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, today announced its partnership with Aultman Hospital in Ohio. The hospital will use Evolv’s state-of-the-art Evolv Express® screening solution at two high-traffic areas in the building.

Evolv Express uses powerful sensor technology with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide safer, more accurate threat detection at unprecedented volume and speed. Aultman Hospital, located in Canton, Ohio, will use two systems– one at its main entrance and another for its emergency department.

“We needed a weapons detection solution that wouldn’t impact people trying to get to work or to an appointment, and Evolv was the perfect answer,” said Darin B. Baad, security coordinator at Aultman Hospital. “Unfortunately, hospitals are facing increased levels of violence, and we need to take steps to protect our environment without stopping and checking every person individually as they walk in.”

Evolv Express allows people to move through security screening without having to always open bags or empty pockets, preventing backups at entrances. The technology distinguishes between threats and most everyday items people carry. According to Aultman Hospital, within the first ten hours of installing the new systems, a number of prohibited items were found, including a gun, a taser, and knives, and nurses and staff have praised the hospital for prioritizing safety.

Aultman procured its Evolv Express systems from Johnson Controls, an Evolv distribution partner. Evolv’s Genetec integration also allows the technology to work seamlessly with the other security measures Aultman Hospital has in place, including security cameras and access control.

That fear immediately melted away with the support of Evolv on their go-live date. In fact, during their first concert, geared towards classical music lovers, Turbiville recounts how one “would think that we wouldn’t have detected any weapons due to the demographics of our guests, but we found a handgun in an older lady’s purse that night, which really shined the light on our decision. Since that first event, we’ve found some additional handguns and knives. By enabling the Evolv Express®, the Tampa Bay Lightning were able to achieve the following: 

  • Reduced nuisance alarm rate by nearly 50% compared to legacy metal detector
  • Saw a 15% increase in fans in their seats by the time the puck dropped—nearly 80% of capacity

Mercy Prescribes Security Screening for Its Emergency Departments to Ameliorate Clinical Staff Safety Concerns

A central mission for Mercy is to ensure that patients and visitors feel as safe and secure as possible when visiting one of Mercy’s facilities. It is also critical that hospital staff, or coworkers as Mercy refers to them, can provide care to patients in a safe environment. “Our patients, family members, and staff need to feel secure because everyone who is entering has gone through the same processes to ensure that no one brings a weapon into one of our facilities that they could use to harm themselves, one of our coworkers, or another patient or family member of a patient,” says Adam Whitten, Mercy’s VP of Operational Excellence.

He continues, “The vast majority take place in our Emergency Departmental and Behavioral Health areas. There is a precipitous fall off from there. We also know that after a certain time of night at most of our facilities, the Emergency Department becomes the only access point to the entire hospital. All other doors are locked and guarded so no one else can come in.” With these two factors in mind, Mercy decided to begin the rollout of the Evolv Express® systems at Mercy’s Emergency Departments. By enabling the Evolv Express, Mercy Health Hospitals were able to achieve the following:

The Pittsburgh Steelers Add a Defensive Security Layer with Evolv Express®

Opry Entertainment Group Continues to Strengthen Live Entertainment in Nashville while Bolstering Security with Evolv

Dale Duhl, Senior Manager of Security at the Grand Ole Opry House remembers one guest who showed up for the Loretta Lynn memorial last fall. “We had lines of people who showed up before we opened our gates,” he says. “I overheard one person telling her friends, ‘We’re never going to get our seats. Even if they open up right now, we’re still not going to make it.’ The gates opened and the lines started to move.” Duhl continued, “Ten minutes later, when I was in the lobby, the same woman and her friends passed through security. She came over to me and told me, ‘Flawless and seamless. I’m very impressed with how you handled this huge crowd.’ I had to smile to myself. As we had Evolv, I knew that we were going to make it work.”  By enabling Evolv Express® Opry Entertainment Group was able to achieve the following:  

  • Consolidated 22 metal detectors to 3 Express dual-lane and 2 Express single-lane systems – a 77% reduction
  • Reallocated 21 security staff from ingress to other areas of two venues for enhanced security – a 60% reduction
  • Reduced screening time and improved guest ingress experience
