Aultman Hospital Looks to Evolv and Genetec for Integrated Security Screening Prescription

The First College to Deploy Evolv, Cape Fear Community College Renews Evolv Relationship for Improved Efficiency and Guest Experience

Cape Fear Community College was a first adopter back in June 2019 of the predecessor of the Evolv Express®, known as Evolv Edge®. Fast forward to 2021 with the launch of the Evolv Express, CFCC was immediately interested in the upgrade.

Norm Berth, Guest Experience Specialist at CFCC says “…due to the relationship we have with Evolv and the success we had as an early adopter of the technology, we didn’t look at alternatives to the Express,” he says. “The relationship has also evolved over time, and Evolv has added operational infrastructure and processes to ensure we get the support we need. Boston College Students’ Safety and Experience Soars with the Deployment of Evolv Express®

Boston College has a rich tradition in athletics, touting the Alumni Stadium which holds 45,000 football fans, and a basketball and hockey center, Conte Forum, that holds 8,600 fans for basketball and 7,500 for hockey. The college also has a softball field with a capacity of 2,500 and a lacrosse field with a capacity of 2,000.

Around 2019, Conway and his team evaluated walkthrough metal detectors and ultimately determined they were not the right fit for the campus. The Boston College team continued its search for a different security screening approach and discovered it due to a chance encounter with Evolv Technology. Conway cites several reasons why everyone at Boston College felt Evolv was the right decision for the university, from screening accuracy to student experience and data insights. Another key aspect of the decision was also Evolv’s dedication to education and to creating safer environments for students, something especially important in a college campus.

With Evolv Express systems in place, Boston College has seen its security lines almost disappear depending on the event and the particular entrance. Because students and fans are getting into venues faster, they are spending more in concessions and retail shops. The response to Evolv from the Boston College “family” has been overwhelmingly positive per Conway.

Lee Health Uses Data-Driven Weapons Detection Powered by Evolv to Tackle Provider and Patient Safety in Its Emergency Departments

When Robert Sherwood, the Director of Public Safety Technology & Community Based
Care at Lee Health, joined the nonprofit healthcare system based in Southwest Florida 13
years ago, its security systems looked much different than they do today. Since he joined the team, Sherwood has led Lee Health in implementing various technology initiatives to improve security and safety. Despite various advances in security processes, significant gaps remained. For several years, Lee Health relied on handheld metal detectors to screen for incoming weapons. However, the security team was unable to check everyone for weapons.

Knowing they wanted to institute a weapons screening solution, the Lee Health team went in search of a better approach. The team did a lot of research online and identified several different technologies that included Evolv. Ultimately, there were three reasons why Lee Health selected Evolv – data and analytics, seamless traffic flow, and Evolv’s footprint.

Since deploying Evolv, Lee Health has seen high rates of weapons being detected in its
Emergency Departments. This is something that Sherwood and the team aren’t necessarily shocked to see in Florida, but are surprised at the numbers nonetheless, as it reflects what may have been previously entering the hospital campus unknowingly.

For the second half of 2023, Lee Health detected 157 guns and over 1,000 knives. “We’ve screened over 222,000 patients and visitors with Evolv to date,” Sherwood reports. “It was mind-boggling to see the first monthly report that we generated with Evolv Insights. I saw the number of weapons we detected, and I thought, ‘Wow! This system is amazing.’”

DICK’S Sporting Goods Park Provides Rapid Security Screening with Evolv Technology

DICK’S Sporting Goods Park opened in 2007, providing a new, state-of-the-art home for the MLS’s Colorado Rapids and a great venue for other Denver events such as concerts. For several years, DICK’S Sporting Goods Park relied on walkthrough metal detectors to screen guests and employees for weapons as they entered the park. In early 2023, however, the Events team at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park and the Safety and Security team at Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, the Park’s parent company, embarked on a search to upgrade the technology underlying their security ingress. Their mission was to improve the experience of fans and guests while maintaining a high level of security.

At the top of the list of reasons the DICK’S and Kroenke teams turned to Evolv was the ability to provide security staff with a technology that would help them in their jobs. “With the walkthrough metal detectors, the technology did not aid our staff in doing their jobs at all,” McKenna explains. “With Evolv, the red box on the Evolv tablet tells them exactly where the potential threat is located on the person’s body or bag. It creates a frictionless process. Evolv supports them in doing their job. And when secondary screening is needed, the check for weapons is unintrusive; the interactions between security staff and our guests are much improved.”

By enabling the Evolv Express®, the Colorado Rapids were able to achieve the following:

Screened over 1,000 guests at one entrance in a 15-minute timeframe.

Citi Field Delivers Transformative Ingress Experience for New York Mets Fans with the Help of Evolv

Southern Ohio Medical Center Enables Better Patient Care in Ohio by Prescribing Non-invasive Security Screening with Evolv

Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth Ohio were very close to rolling out a fleet of walkthrough metal detectors a couple years back. “We were very close to rolling out an implementation,” recalls David Hall, SOMC’s Manager of Security Operations. “But the entire process was very invasive. Everyone who goes through a metal detector must remove everything from their pockets and go through it multiple times. The high volume of nuisance alarms was something we didn’t want to deal with.” They knew that they needed something better to serve their staff while not compromising the efficiency of the hospital.

“We had a lot of ED staff telling us they were very concerned about safety,” Hall says. “They wanted to be able to take care of patients and not worry about their safety. Indeed, when the ED nursing staff found out that we were putting the Express systemsb in place, they were very excited. I remember one of the nurses in the meeting where we announced the decision pumping her fist and exclaiming, ‘Yes!’”

Pittsburgh’s PNC Park Brings Back the Nostalgic Park Experience With the Help of Evolv

Wyoming Valley West School District Ensures Students Aren’t Late to Class with the Help of Evolv

For a number of years, Wyoming Valley West used walkthrough metal detectors sporadically at the entrances to all of its schools—four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. About midway through 2022, a large grant from the Pennsylvania Crime Commission became available to every school district in the state. “The grant had a series of checkboxes for tiers one through three
that reflected the maturity of security deployments at the district,” Anthony Dicton, Safety and Security Coordinator at Wyoming
Valley School District recalls. “I was able to persuade the grant writers that we had completed tier one and most of tier two, and thus we qualified to purchase security screening systems. I was familiar with the Evolv Express technology and knew what we wanted.”

He later continues, “When we evaluated different options, we kept coming back to the fact that Evolv is used at some of the largest sports stadiums and most prestigious performing arts centers in the country. If it keeps their environments safe and scales to handle the volumes of guests they experience, then it is good enough for us.” By enabling the Evolv Express®, Wyoming Valley School District was able to achieve the following and more:
