Boch Center Gives Evolv a Standing Ovation for Keeping Patrons Safe with Evolv Express®

The iconic Boch Center is no stranger to sold-out shows. From classic theater, operas, musicals, comedy and more, they are the place to be to see a show in Boston. A historic reputation and show-stopping lineup means the lines outside their venues would always wrap around city blocks, which not only proved to be a security threat for patrons but also negatively impacted the theater experience and affected local businesses. On their opening night with Evolv, the Boch Center was apprehensive about how well the system would work in addressing these issues, so commonly seen with traditional metal detectors. This apprehension was quickly relieved. Eric Neill, Director of Theater Operations at the Boch Center recounts, “when we opened the doors, patrons started streaming through the Express lanes and proceeding to ticketing. The lines faded away. Within 15 minutes, there was a positive vibe across the entire staff in the building.” Since that first show, Neill has been able to quickly and efficiently bring patrons into the theater, while also maintaining positive relationships with surrounding businesses. By enabling Evolv Express® the Boch Center was able to achieve the following:  

  • Reduced nuisance alarm rate 7-fold, approximately an 80% reduction from metal detectors
  • Shrank security screening footprint from 11 metal detectors to 4 Express systems
  • Eliminated security lines that took up to 15 minutes to navigate

During her search for a new weapons screening solution, Heather Beasley, Security Manager at Purple, knew that she had to find technology that contributed to a safer environment without impacting warehouse ingress. Workers aren’t willing to stand in line for security screening, as only once they pass through security can they clock in for their shift. Being deemed late for your shift as a result of inefficient and slow security screening, and possibly having pay docked as a result, was not something workers were willing to accept.   • Greatly minimized risk of a weapon being used in one of the company’s facilities

SoFi Stadium and YouTube Theater Stay on the Leading Edge of Guest Experience with Evolv Technology

Sofi Stadium and YouTube Theater are unprecedented in a number of ways. They are situated under the same roof canopy, with the American Airlines Plaza in between them. “When guests come to Hollywood Park, and more specifically SoFi Stadium or YouTube Theater, they expect a smooth experience – whether it is parking, coming through the entrance, or the actual event they came to see,” said Nick Bermensolo, Sr. Director of Security at SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park. After experiencing longer security lines with their traditional metal detectors, they heard about the Evolv Express® system from other NFL teams who had replaced metal detectors with the Express system. Through implementing Evolv Express, SoFi Stadium, and YouTube Theater were able to:

  • Cut the number of security systems to manage by 85% – from about 170 walkthrough metal detectors to 27 Express systems

Evolv Helps Improve Security at Bridgestone Arena and Ensures Fans Never Miss a Puck Drop

Locally dubbed as “the biggest honky-tonk on Broadway”, the Bridgestone Arena is at the very heart of the entertainment district in downtown Nashville. It is one of the busiest entertainment venues in the world, hosting home games for the NHL’s Nashville Predators, Broadway shows, virtually every form of musical performance, the CMA and CMT Awards, among others. On January 21st, 2023, the Nashville Predatorsscored2 goals within the first 40 seconds of their game against the L.A. Kings. Previously, a large number of fans would have been stuck outside Bridgestone Arena in long security lines and would have missed that extraordinary moment. However, because of Evolv, those same fans were able to witness an incredible first minute of a game, which the Predators went on to win 3-2. Through implementing Evolv Express, Bridgestone Arena was also able to:

  • Screened thousands of fans and patrons in the 12-minute “rush” before start times
  • Reduced security alarms for secondary screening by around 40%
  • Increased the amount of time fans and guests spend in pre-game festivities and concessions

Lyric Opera of Chicago Gives the Evolv Express® Accolades for Its Security Screening Performance

Historically, the Lyric Opera House of Chicago did not employ security screening. “We adhere to the Illinois protocol that bans handguns in public buildings,” says John Yelen, the Senior Director of Facilities. “But we never found any since we never checked anyone. Other theaters in the Chicago area had implemented Evolv Express® systems and our executive management team had visited those sites and seen the Express in action. Our General Manager had also seen the Express system at a local sports stadium and was impressed with the seamless approach to security screening.”

John Yelen went on to recount “we considered other options, such as walkthrough magnetometers and hand-held wands, for primary security screening but they simply weren’t a fit. A lot of our patrons are elderly, and we needed something that was easy to walk through. James Island Charter High School is at the Head of the Class for Security Screening With the Help of Evolv

James Island Charter High School is a leader in many ways. It ranks in the top 5% of high schools in South Carolina. Its high school graduation rate is more than 11 points higher than the average for high schools in the state. Eight out of 10 graduating seniors pursue college degrees, compared to an average of only 69% of seniors from other high schools in South Carolina.

When it comes to the safety of students, administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and visitors, James Island also ranks at the top of the class. The school began using hand-wand metal detectors in 2018 and walkthrough metal detectors in 2020. But these traditional metal detectors were problematic. Lines would form outside of the front and back atriums of the school that served as entrances, and the pileups of students at the entrances were a security risk in themselves. Through implementing our systems, James Island Charter High School was able to achieve the following and more:  

  • Reduced school staff required to manage security screening by 40%—from 12 to 8
  • Eliminated soft target of students waiting in backed-up lines to pass through security screening

Cleveland Browns Stadium Doubles Down on ‘Fan Obsession’ By Achieving One of the Fastest Ingress Experiences in the NFL

Ingress is a really important part of the game experience for fans—getting them into the stadium quickly and safely in a short amount of time,” says Brandon Covert, the VP of Information Technology at HSG. “Fans are at the forefront of our culture. We’re fan-obsessed when we look at the entire game experience. For security screening, we evaluated the Evolv Express against several metal detector technologies and really loved how fast and how safe fans got into the stadium.” Before HSG and the Cleveland Browns could deploy the Express systems at Cleveland Browns Stadium, however, they had to test them to ensure they were compliant with NFL standards. “We did testing at Lower.com Field last year to ensure we were ready at Cleveland Browns Stadium for the 2022 NFL season,” Covert says. Rural Nebraska Winnebago Public Schools Improves School Security Without Negatively Impacting Student Experience

Winnebago Public Schools is located on the Winnebago Reservation of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. Winnebago has approximately 600 elementary, middle, and high school students, who attend school in the same building. “We have a unique situation as we have students of all ages arriving at the school,” Adam James, the schools Safety Director explains. “We have a north and south entrance. The South entrance is a drop-off point for parents and buses and opens at the beginning and end of the school day, whereas the North entrance is open throughout.”

“We saw an uptick in school violence and what was happening in the media,” he relays. “We had not experienced a problem with weapons. We had some small incidents but nothing that posed a threat. However, we wanted to get out in front of potential threats. We had implemented a video surveillance system 3 years ago, and it has been a big success. But we felt that we needed something beyond video at our entrances.” Then they found Evolv Express® through one of our partners ICU Technologies, and through implementing our systems, Winnebago Public Schools was able to achieve the following and more:

Gillette Stadium Delivers Game-Changing, Frictionless Security Ingress

Fans who attend NFL and MLS games and concerts at Gillette Stadium have high expectations, and the team at Gillette take the safety of their venue goers very seriously. For security screening, the team previously employed walkthrough magnetometers at its 10 public and 4 premium entrances (around 560 systems). But even with a large number of magnetometers in use, lines would form in front of the entrances—forcing fans to wait 10 to 15 minutes to get into the stadium.

“In addition to the wait to get into the stadium, a significant number of false alarms forced many fans to go through secondary security checks
where they would need to divest their personal effects,” says Mike Loynd, the VP of Strategic Initiatives at Kraft Sports & Entertainment. “It was an uncomfortable process and created a lot of friction.” Then they heard about Evolv Technology – “Evolv met all our ‘must-have’ requirements related to operations, efficiency, and security.” Since implementing Evolv Express®, Gillette Stadium was able to achieve the following and more:

Storied Amusement Park Elitch Gardens Delights Guests and Keeps Them Safe with the Evolv Express®
