Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts Enhances Security with Evolv Technology

Continued partnership heightens guest experience while improving safety in New York City

WALTHAM, MA. (October 4, 2022) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), the leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, today announced the latest results from its partnership with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA). The iconic venue, in the heart of New York City, is now using Evolv’s state-of-the-art Evolv Express® screening solution to keep visitors safe across its 16-acre campus.

“Lincoln Center is a New York City landmark that draws people from all over the world,” said Jermaine McLean, captain of security at LCPA. “Evolv keeps visitors safe without sacrificing their experience as they come to our events.”

Evolv Express uses powerful sensor technology with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide safer, more accurate threat detection at unprecedented volume and speed. The technology enables people to walk through side-by-side, without always having to remove items from their pockets or bags, allowing LCPA to eliminate backups that at one time were so lengthy they caused guests to miss the start of performances. Now, hundreds of people can come through the system in a matter of minutes.

The world’s leading performing arts center uses Evolv Express at different locations across its expansive campus, moving units between buildings and performance spaces as needed. The space hosts millions of people at hundreds of events annually. Guest feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with some saying they weren’t even aware they had gone through a security check due to the ease of the system.

The upgrade in technology – from Evolv’s legacy weapons detection system to Evolv Express – is the latest iteration of the partnership between the two organizations. Evolv systems have been used by LCPA for its security needs for years. The companies say they work well together because they share certain values.

“As a former police officer, my top concern is the safety of our patrons and staff. Evolv Express is one of the key components to our multi-layered security approach,” said Danny Mulligan, director of security at LCPA. “Our patrons see that we care about their safety and appreciate that their experience hasn’t been compromised. From a business perspective, investing in a proven technology that keeps our guests happy and keeps them coming back is a no-brainer.”

“Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts was our first customer, and their trust in us is significant because the heightened level of security required in New York City must be addressed with especially sophisticated solutions,” said Anil Chitkara, Evolv’s co-founder and chief growth officer. “They have set the standard for what venue patrons should expect when it comes to safety and security, and we’re grateful that their example and trust in us early on has led to new customer relationships resulting in Evolv’s expanded use throughout the city.”

“Other security professionals call us all the time asking about Evolv and wanting to see what we’re doing because they know we integrate it well into our overall security ecosystem,” said Mulligan. “And I tell them the reason we use Evolv is because of the partnership. We explored many options and Evolv is the best solution on the market right now for what they do.”

Guilford County Schools Safely Usher In The New Academic Year With Evolv Technology

North Carolina district chose Evolv after seeing impressive results from nearby cities

WALTHAM, MA (October 5, 2022) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), the leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, today announced its partnership with Guilford County Schools in North Carolina. Evolv’s state-of-the-art Evolv Express® screening solution began being used in nearly 20 of the district’s high schools starting with the 2022-2023 academic year.

After seeing the successful use of Evolv Express in the neighboring Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system, the district spoke with Evolv Technology about how Evolv Express could be used to screen for potential threats while enabling a comfortable entry into school for students.

Evolv Express allows for a faster and better security process as people can walk through without always having to stop or undergo invasive screening while the system works to detect and pinpoint the location of concealed weapons. Traditional metal detectors at schools can cause backups at entrances and delays to the start of the school day, as students are subject to a manual screening process, as well as tend to make students feel less safe and unsettled. With Evolv Express in place, there is no hassle of undergoing an invasive, hands-on security check at the start of the day.

“The Evolv system allows us to add another layer of security for our schools, without detracting from the learning environment,” said Mike Richey, executive director of emergency management at Guilford County Schools. “After successfully launching the system in all high schools at the start of the school year, we are now using it for sporting events and other large gatherings.”

Guilford County Schools is using 44 Evolv Express screening systems across 19 high schools. The technology will help keep tens of thousands of students, educators, and staff safe in the state’s third-largest school district. In addition to its use in Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, Evolv Express is currently in use in more than 26 schools across the U.S. including schools in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Fayette County, West Virginia and Champaign, Illinois.

“Our vision is a safer world for people wherever they gather,” said Peter George, CEO of Evolv Technology. “Working with Guilford County, and a growing list of schools around the country, is at the center of that vision and allows schools to keep the focus on providing a quality education.”

City of Detroit Combats Gun Violence with Evolv Technology

Detroit Auto Show latest city event to be secured by advanced weapons detection screening technology

WALTHAM, MA (September 15, 2022) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), the leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, today announced the company will work with the Detroit Police Department (DPD) to secure the upcoming Detroit Auto Show taking place from September 14 – 25 at Huntington Place in Detroit, MI. The DPD began employing Evolv Express® systems around the city this past summer to provide an additional layer of safety and comfort among residents.

Built with powerful sensor technology and artificial intelligence, Evolv Express instantly distinguishes weapons from personal items, enabling people to walk through security without breaking stride or emptying pockets or bags and allowing security professionals to better focus on addressing possible threats.  The advanced weapons detection system screens approximately 4,000 people per hour, operating 10x faster than a metal detector while identifying the precise location of a potential weapon.

The DPD has been using Evolv Express outdoor dual-lane units at nightclubs in the city’s Greektown restaurant and nightlife district as well as major events, including the Movement Music Festival, Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, and the 64th annual Ford Fireworks which drew over 100,000 attendees and resulted in zero-gun violence at the July celebration.

“Evolv has aided our officers in enhancing security at large events and special details,” said Detroit Police Department Chief James White.  “This technology acts as a force multiplier for the DPD, as the systems now allow us to reallocate some officers from security screening to other areas in need.”

“Our mission is to make the world safer for people to work, learn, live and play,” said Peter George, CEO and President of Evolv Technology. “Our work with the City of Detroit is an excellent example of how we collaborate with local law enforcement to help create weapons-free zones that allow residents to feel comfortable in the spaces they gather.”

Evolv Express was selected as part of the City’s 2022 Community Policing Strategy with the objective of supplementing the intelligence-driven community policing strategy with the most proven and advanced policing technologies available on the market.  The Detroit Auto Show is expected to draw over 800,000 visitors over the course of the two-week event.

Evolv Technology Stops Over 30,000 Guns From Entering Venues In The First Six Months Of 2022

Evolv Scans Over 350 Million People, Continues to Support and Enforce Weapons-Free Zones

WALTHAM, MA (August 11, 2022) Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), the leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, today announced that it has further extended weapons-free zones, solidifying its market and technology leadership as measured by significant growth in new customer adoption, weapons detection, and visitor screening.

Evolv is committed to creating weapons-free zones across the world. The Evolv Express® system, which uses a powerful combination of artificial intelligence, advanced sensors, and comprehensive analytics, screens nearly 750 thousand people each day– and as many as 1.25 million a day on weekends. Since January 2022, Evolv has detected and stopped over 30 thousand guns and 27 thousand knives, excluding law enforcement, from entering its customers’ venues, including schools, performing arts centers, casinos, stadiums, arenas, hospitals and other workplaces. These numbers represent approximately a third of customers who are currently tagging the threats by utilizing Evolv’s analytics platform, called Evolv Insights.

Partnering with customers, Evolv Express® systems have stopped potential mass casualties in areas that are intended to be weapons-free. In the past few months alone, two incidents have taken place where the Evolv Express® systems prevented a loaded gun from entering a hospital and a school where, in each case, it was believed there was intent to do harm and law enforcement was engaged.

In the six months ended June 30, 2022, the Company has added nearly 100 new customers, including Gillette Stadium, Hard Rock International, AO Arena, Distrito T-Mobile, Dollywood Theme Park and Champaign Unit 4 School District. Further, Evolv has now screened over 350 million people, second only to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Evolv has deployed over 1,100 of its Express systems in iconic venues throughout North America and the United Kingdom as well as in schools, hospitals, and public spaces, securing its position as the leading provider of AI-based concealed weapons screening technology in use today.

“At Evolv, we believe that safety is a basic human right,” said Peter George, CEO of Evolv Technology. “Over 350 million people is an important step in our quest to keep people safe where they gather, as is stopping over 50 thousand weapons from entering the places where they work, learn, play and live. We partner with our customers to create weapons-free zones and, we believe, provide peace of mind to visitors and staff as well as to the community at large. If we can prevent or deter one potential loss of life, we are doing our job.”

The Company achieved year over year growth in the following measures during the six months ended June 30, 2022:

  • 152% year-over-year increase in new customers
  • 366% year-over-year increase in total people screened
  • 193% year-over-year increase in Evolv Express units deployed

Evolv Technology Works To Set Standards for Sensitive Information in the Physical Security Industry

Leading security experts agree that too much transparency compromises the public’s safety

WALTHAM, MA (August 10, 2022)Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV, “Evolv”), the global leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, recently surveyed security professionals at Evolv’s customers’ organizations on the topic of transparency and sensitive security information and reports that 96% of the two dozen respondents believe that such information should not be made available to the general public.

The need to provide transparency without helping potential attackers is a fundamental paradox of the security industry. While aviation security has clear specifications classified by the Transportation Security Administration in the US and European Civil Aviation Conference in the EU, other venues for which advanced security screening is being used have not yet formalized set standards around transparency.

Evolv is working to set that standard. The company discloses sensitive information only to trusted security partners to prevent the exposure of potential vulnerabilities and compromising customers’ security plans. The Company recently underwent NCS⁴’s operational exercise with its Evolv Express® system and earned an overall composite score of 2.84 out of 3 and chose not to make the full report public as part of the Evolv transparency statement. It is a position agreed to by leading security experts as methods of advanced screening continue to be used in more venues around the world.

“The less that is shared with the general public the better chance we all have at someone not finding a weak point in any security posture,” said one of the survey respondents.

“People who say that absolute transparency is best simply don’t understand the security business,” said John Pistole, former administrator of the United States TSA and a former deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. “They apparently don’t have an informed perspective or insight into just how determined bad actors are in their efforts to harm individuals, countries, and companies.”

“Security professionals do not want anyone to release information that helps attackers defeat their systems,” said Randy Smith, western region director, Security Detection. “Fans, students, concertgoers, and healthcare workers have a right to their safety. To release sensitive security information is irresponsible and potentially life threatening.”

“Similar to cybersecurity and counterterrorism, protecting the methods and means, and sharing them only with trusted security partners is critical to preventing the exposure of potential vulnerabilities. All systems have weaknesses. In aviation, it’s illegal for the people who know all the details to share them publicly,” said Mike Ellenbogen, cofounder and chief innovation officer at Evolv. “Established security experts understand the basic requirement to keep detailed sensitive information away from anybody who might use the information to exploit or attempt to penetrate a physical security system, and that includes the general public. Those who are saying otherwise truly do not understand the industry and are putting the public at risk. Evolv’s mission is to make everywhere safer. Public disclosure of sensitive security information objectively makes people less safe.”

Evolv is committed to working with customers, partners, and other trusted security professionals to develop best practices on sharing sensitive security information to the general public. Keeping the public safe requires an important balance of sharing sensitive information with trusted security partners while also keeping it out of the hands of adversaries in an ever-changing threat landscape.

For security professionals interested in joining the conversation to develop standards across AI-based weapons detection security screening, please contact transparency@evolvtechnology.com.

Evolv surveyed its customer base of security professionals on the topic of transparency of sensitive information in July 2022. Respondents represent – and are responsible for the physical security at – schools, sports stadiums, performing arts centers, tourist locations, museums, and theme parks around the US.

Evolv Technology Proves a Safe Bet for Hard Rock International

WALTHAM, MA. (August 4, 2022) –  Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), a leader in weapons detection security screening, today announced a new partnership with Hard Rock International, owned by the Seminole tribe of Florida. Evolv will support the casino’s mission to improve the overall customer experience at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL and in Tampa, FL by installing the company’s free flow, touchless security screening technology.

Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is south Florida’s premier entertainment venue, and ranked No. 3 worldwide in 2021 ticket sales for theatre venues by Pollstar Magazine. Hard Rock Live can support some of the entertainment industry’s biggest performers, as well as nationally and internationally televised awards shows, sporting events and more. A-list entertainers that have recently performed at Hard Rock Live include Paul McCartney, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Billy Joel, Post Malone, and Dave Chappelle, among others.

Hard Rock International selected the award-winning Evolv Express® screening solution to boost safety and streamline the flow of foot traffic to its entertainment events. Evolv Express provides advanced, sensor-based AI-driven screening technology at unprecedented volume and speed. Additionally, Evolv’s data and software analytics provide security staff with powerful insights, which are used to help predict and better manage the pace of crowds through the screening process as venues strive to deliver zero-wait time for guests.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer a better experience for our valued guests by eliminating long lines and the need to empty pockets and bags. With safety and guest experience being our top priorities, Evolv has allowed us to screen large numbers of people in a much more efficient and effective manner,” said Keith Sheldon, President of Entertainment at Hard Rock International and Seminole Gaming.

By replacing metal detectors with Evolv Express®, lines are reduced dramatically. Additionally, by requiring fewer staff to manage the security screening process, the venue has assigned more team members to cater to its guests’ needs adding to the overall improved experience.

“We are pleased to partner with Hard Rock to help elevate their guest experience while creating a more productive security process,” said Peter George, CEO, Evolv Technology. “We’re honored to be part of the Hard Rock’s efforts to leverage the latest in security technology without inconveniencing the customer, but actually enhancing their experience.”

Gillette Stadium Scores AI Weapons Detection Systems From Evolv Technology

GILLETTE STADIUM SCORES AI WEAPONS DETECTION SYSTEMS FROM EVOLV TECHNOLOGY

Partnership kicks off improved fan experience with advanced security screening to protect the public while eliminating long lines

WALTHAM, Mass. – July 12, 2022 – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), a leader in weapons detection security screening, today announced Gillette Stadium is creating better fan experiences through the use of its Evolv Express® Systems. Evolv Express combines powerful sensor technology with proven artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics to help ensure safer public venues and more accurate threat detection while getting visitors to their seats in a faster and better manner.

As thousands of fans flock to Gillette Stadium, they can now walk through the entrance gates, avoiding long lines or having to stop, as Evolv’s systems are trained to spot weapons and other potential threats while ignoring other items like keys, loose change and cell phones. This technology creates better customer experiences as fans anticipate the next big win by the New England Patriots or the New England Revolution, or sing along with their favorite musical headliner performing to a sold-out crowd.

“Entertainment is our business, but safety is our top priority,” said Gillette Stadium COO Jim Nolan. “To ensure the continued safety of our guests, we conducted a thorough evaluation that led to the easy decision of choosing Evolv Technology.”

As a sports and entertainment venue with 65,878 seats, Gillette Stadium is the full-time home of the New England Patriots and New England Revolution and is one of the world’s top-grossing concert venues, according to Billboard. The venue annually hosts a diverse variety of other major ticketed events, including international soccer matches, NCAA athletics, professional lacrosse, motor sports and high school football state championships. In 2016, Gillette Stadium hosted the NHL Winter Classic, and was recently named the host venue for the 2023 Army-Navy Game and 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup matches. Gillette Stadium became the first venue of its kind to regularly host corporate and social functions unrelated to ticketed events. Today, its special events department is a major part of the stadium’s 365-day operation, managing and hosting hundreds of functions annually.

“As we celebrate another major professional sports stadium’s choice of Evolv Technology, we also recognize the growing need to help ensure the safety of fans and staff,” said John Baier, Evolv Technology’s vice president of sports. “Metal detectors, once a staple in public safety, have gone the way of pay phones and fax machines. With AI-based systems, we believe fans have better experiences while venues have a more sophisticated and less intrusive way to identify and address potential threats.”

About Gillette Stadium

Gillette Stadium, located in Foxborough, Mass., is New England’s premier sports and entertainment venue. The 65,878-seat stadium is the full-time home of the NFL’s six-time Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots. Gillette Stadium is also the home field of the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer and one of the world’s top-grossing concert venues, according to Billboard and Pollstar. Other notable sporting events held at Gillette Stadium include the 2016 NHL Winter Classic, international soccer matches, NCAA athletics, professional lacrosse, motor sports and the Massachusetts high school football state championships. Gillette Stadium also served as the northeast’s first large-scale COVID-19 vaccination site. The site, operated by CIC Health, administered more than 610,000 vaccinations over 148 days of operation in early 2021.
